The New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and how Short, Short, BIG! aligns.

What to know

In the 2023 English Language Arts Tests, writing prompts in all grade levels will ask students to write using evidence from the text to support their response.

This means students will write text-based responses on all ELA tests in grades 3–8.

What will students be asked to write?

Write a well-organized informational essay that uses specific evidence from the text to support your answer.

Remember to —

  • Clearly state your central idea

  • Organize your writing

  • Develop your ideals in detail

  • Use evidence from the selection in your response

  • Use correct spelling, capitalization, punctuation and grammar
